Prakriti Badi

Prakruthi Badi or Nature school is a day learning centre situated in Chennekothapalli. This was the first centre to be started by the Collective - November 1992. It is run in a small village chavdi that has been leased by the local government free of cost. It is central to all the learning centres run by the Collective. 85 children from landless, marginal farming or petty business families attend this school. Here academic classes are from 1st to 10th standard. Craft classes include tailoring, embroidery, wool-work, basket making and science toys. Children learn the traditional art forms of Kolattam, Chekkabhajana, Tabala, singing, dancing and dramas. Origami, clay-modeling and painting takes place almost everyday. The children get lunch and evening snacks with good amounts of fruits and vegetables. Significant attention is given to health and hygiene aspects. After completing their education in this centre, children have been joining government high schools, colleges or some enterprises.

Over the years Financial support for this centre has been received from ACTION AID - UK, MISEREOR - Germany through NEG - New Delhi, TDH - Germany and ASHA. Many individuals, friends and supporters have also supported in many different ways.
