Sankranti is always a fun festival. There are interesting dishes to eat., colourful new clothes to wear, and everybody gathers to celebrate the harvest!
The Children’s Resource Center too celebrated Sankranti with verve and joy. Over 100 children from different villages participated in a muggu competition. Muggu is that special art that adorns the doorway of rural homes. Drawn with simple dots and lines, it uses a variety of symbols and that too in bright colours… the skill, the twist of the wrist and a pinch of powder could be maneuvered.. and the emergence of art and expression!
Some kids played, some just scattered some colour in a hurry to get done, some very seriously setting their sights on perfection. some trying hard, some just flowing with what came up, some getting peers to help, seriously working out strategies… some going by the rules, meticulously laying the dots, some throwing the dots out and going freehand… some were happy with doing a tiny 3×3… while some were going for the massive… and some just enjoyed throwing colours on another.. and some just left it all and went for the swing and slides! All in all it was a fun time!
The competition was divided into two sections – one for the seniors and the other for juniors. And the children sang a whole lot of songs and prizes were distributed to everyone.
